Cross of Hands

"Cross of Hands "

Height 72” (236cm)

This was a commission for the Chapel at Camberwell School, South London. Hand casts were taken from 40 of the girls at the school, and from these iron hands were created and forged together in the shape of a cross. Religious symbolism is carried through the work with the hands bound together with metal pins, reminiscent of Jesus. The hands are different in shape, size, movement and gesture, forming a vibrant cross, twisting and turning with the spirit of youth, questioning, inspiring and energising.
