The Sculpture is depicting the area in which the residents are
living. The flow of the river past the Millennium Village is
not only beautiful in shape and colour, but it reflects the
society in which we live. If you look within the river and alongside
it, you will find many throw-away objects that we all discard
daily- individually these may be described as rubbish, but if
you look with fresh eyes they can be beautiful with a story
of their own. They have travelled down their own river of life
from raw material to manufacture, distribution and consumption.
The residents have also made their own individual journeys prior
to arriving at the Millennium Village and some have provided
an object relevant to that journey . These discarded items have
been swept up with all the other stories of man-made inanimate
objects to form one river, which hopefully has a strong flow,
uniformity of direction, and the confidence and longevity of
any great river |
